【摘要】:Theknowledgeofdilutesolutionviscosityservesasanadditionaltoolincharacterizingethylenepolymers.Viscositydataalonemaybeoflimitedvalueinpredictingtheprocessingbehaviorofthepolymer.However,whenusedinconjunctionwithotherflowandphysicalpropertyvalues,thesolutionviscosityofethylenepolymersmaycontributetotheircharacterizations.Satisfactorycorrelationbetweensolutionviscosityandcertainotherpropertiesispossiblefrompolymersofasinglemanufacturingprocess.Thesolutionviscositytestisnotsensitivetosomemolecularconfigurationalpatternsthatmayoccuramongpolymersfromdifferentmanufacturingprocesses.Hence,itscorrelationwithotherpropertiesofpolymersproducedbydifferentprocesses,byevenonemanufacturer,maybelimited.Theviscosityofpolymersolutionsmaybedrasticallyaffectedbythepresenceofknownorunknownadditivesinthesample.Theuseofsolutionviscositymaybeofquestionablevaluewhereethylenepolymersareknownorsuspectedtocontaincolorants,carbonblack,lowmolecularweighthydrocarbons,fillers,orotheradditives.Themeasurementofdilutesolutionviscosityofethylenepolymerspresentsproblemsnotordinarilyencounteredinviscosimetry.Ethylenepolymersarenotsolubleatroomtemperatureinanyknownsolvent.Someofthehigherdensitymaterialsareinsolublebelow100x00B0;C.Extremecaremustbeexercisedintransferringthesolutiontotheviscometerforthetestifthecorrectsolutionconcentrationistobemaintained.Thistesthasnosignificanceunlessthesampleiscompletelysoluble.Thesolutionviscosityisafunctionoftheroot-mean-squaresizeofthepolymermoleculesinsolution.Itisknownthatthesolventselectedandthetemperatureofthedeterminationhaveaneffectontheroot-mean-squaresizeoftheparticles.Hence,whereaviscometer,solvent,ortemperatureotherthanspecifiedisused,datamaynotbecomparabletothatobtainedbythisprocedure.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationofthedilutesolutionviscosityofethylenepolymersat135176;C.Itisapplicabletoareasonablywidespectrumofethylenepolymershavingdensitiesfrom0.910to0.970g/cm2.Directionsaregivenforthedeterminationofrelativeviscosity(viscosityratio),inherentviscosity(logarithmicviscositynumber),andintrinsicviscosity(limitingviscositynumber)(seeAppendixX4).1.2ThevaluesasstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Note18212;ThistestmethodistechnicallyequivalenttoISO1628-3.Note28212;AppendixX1-AppendixX3containmaterialfromthepreviousversionofTestMethodD1601andareincludedforinformationonly.
