【摘要】:Boomsectionsarefrequentlycombinedintoassemblageshundredsofmetersinlengthpriortotowingthroughthewatertoaspillsite.Thefrictionofmovinglongboomassemblagesthroughthewatercanimposehightensilestressesonboomsegmentsnearthetowvessel.Tensileforcesarealsosetupinaboomwhenitisbeingtowedinasweepingmode.Themagnitudeofthistensileforcecanberelatedtotheimmerseddepthoftheboom,thelengthofboominvolved,thewidthofthebightformedbythetwotowingvessels,andthespeedofmovement.Note18212;Whenthetowingspeedexceedsabout1knot(0.5m/s),substantialoilwillbelostundertheboom.Knowledgeofmaximumandallowableworkingtensilestresseswillhelpintheselectionofboomforagivenapplicationandwillpermitspecificationofsafetowingandanchoringconditionsforanygivenboom.1.1Thesetestmethodscoverstaticlaboratorytestsofthestrengthofoilspillresponseboomundertensileloading.1.2Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Foraspecifichazardstatement,seeSection7.
